I work the polls. I haven’t counted how many I’ve worked…since 2012 and a bunch more than I can count on one hand- maybe two now. I have worked as a leader and worker – I give zero shits what position they need me in I am on the front line.
2020 was different than any other election I worked. All Poll workers were finger printed. The FBI did back ground checks on all poll workers. The County actually hired us all to put us under the umbrella of their own employment stipulations. The ballots and scanners were not allowed in our possession. All the workers were required to work Sat-Sun-Mon and Tue – all day 6am-9pm.
I intentionally volunteered to be the greeter. The first person all 2100+ voters saw at the front of the Veteran’s Hall. I positioned myself at the front door looking out on the long walkway to the parking lot. I wore rubber gloves- two masks and sanitized railing and tables all day for 4 days. I set up a code word to use to warn the others around the corner to evacuate immediately in case of an active shooter. We had a plan. We pulled it off. 3 went down with Covid. One Qanon van sat in the parking lot for days on end. People tried to wear trump tshirts into the polls. People tried to instigate fights in line. People yelled at me for enforcing the rules.
I stood there getting paid $100 a day- during a pandemic- willing and very ready to die for the right for people to vote in a safe space. Why did I do that? Lots of reasons and one very clear reason is below.

Remember one thing local law enforcement the key word being local….. we will find you oathbreakers and we’re going to pay your family to visit your mom your dad your brothers and sisters your children your wife… we’re going to make examples of traitors to our country… death to you and all you communist friends.”
